Chronicles the voyages of a ship run by the ruthless Wolf Larsen, among the greatest of London's characters, and spokesman for an extreme individualism London intended to critique.

The Sea Wolf edition by jack london Literature Fiction eBooks

Jack London's The Sea Wolf is a complex drama that would never be written today. It is clearly constrained by the Victorian morality of the time. That said, it is thoroughly engaging, even if one is not familiar with the nautical terminology. Not to give away the plot, it is a necessarily allegorical tale of good and evil, superbly told. London was clearly influenced by Dana's "Two Years Before the Mast" as well as Shakespeare's "The Tempest." Caliban is in full force here, as is Ariel (female version). But it is the clash of humanistic philosophies that is most interesting, aside from the blazing sea adventure, unlikely as it is. London, of course was a seaman for much of his astonishing life, so it is unfathomable that he did not recognize the impossibility of the chain of events. It is ever more to his credit as a story-teller, that the reader never "gives up The Ghost" (pun intended). This is a classic story, one that should be on the reading list of every undergraduate Literature class. Unlikely as it is, these days.

The Sea Wolf edition by jack london Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is a well-known classic, one of many written by Jack London. I read it in my younger years and thought I'd enjoy the adventure all over again. I gained so much more information about people and their differences. It's a psychological adventure novel of Journalist Humphrey van Weyden surviving an ocean collision and is rescued by Wolf Larsen, Captain of the Sea Wolf. The first printing of this novel sold immediately 40,000 books in 1904. It's still a story to be read by our modern society. This great, intense story is still a classic.
It amazes me how the classic books are so well written. I love books that cause me to go to a dictionary to find what a word means. I will definitely read more if his books.

This book took me through the emotional feelings of drowning, fighting for one's mental stability and still trusting that love exists in yourself when others try to crush it. It answers the questions of; How does one survive when by no circumstances of his own he is 'rescued' by a man of no conscience? How can one maintain his own ethical standards when faced with evil in a person. How can one survive to be an overcomer? Great book
"The Sea-Wolf," is an old Jack London classic. A great book for English Lit. and has surely been the focus of stacks of term papers. But, if that drives you away from reading this tale, you will miss a great read!
I took this book on after burning through "Call of the Wild, " and "White Fang," on my new . My first experience with Jack London and both wonderful reads. These two books gave me a lot of insight into the themes that show up in " The Sea-Wolf." So, I can recommend both of the classics as great reads which will supplement understanding "The Sea-Wolf. "
I discovered some of my all time favorite paragraphs in "Call of the Wild," and "White Fang." When Jack London is hot, he can really bang out some thought provoking and powerful images. For me, perhaps more so in the first two reads than in "The Sea-Wolf." Still, "The Sea-Wolf ," is a great adventure and a page burner on it's own. London can, and does, pour it on with his brilliant ship handling and seamanship scenes. Character development in "The Sea-Wolf " is stellar too as London creates great images and keeps the deep characters limited and vivid.
A sailing adventure, a struggle for survival, the waxing and waning of dominance, personal discovery and growth along with a love story are seamlessly wrapped together and proved to me that "The Sea-Wolf," is a classic worthy of a revisit or an introduction to Jack London's great writing.

Paul S Lewis
This was my first Jack London novel. I've been on a classics kick for a couple of years and I thought it was time to try something from an American literary giant that I'd only read about. This is a moving story with riveting characters and terrific action from beginning to end. London put a significant amount of effort into the development of the Wolf Larsen character and it paid off for me. Like other famous, obsessive sea captains (Queeg, Bligh, Ahab) Wolf Larsen is a layered, complicated, conflicted man. In truth, he's probably afflicted with some variety of bipolar disorder (likely caused by brain tumors), and at the least, he's self-destructive and torments himself as much as his crew.

I heartily recommend this book. It's a rich tale of broken people, some of whom find growth and redemption of sorts. Others only find payment for a lifetime of twisted thoughts and actions. I'll be reading more of Mr. London's works in the near future.
I was very much looking forward to starting this book today as it arrived this morning. When I opened the cover, to browse through it, I discovered the smallest typeface that I believe has ever been invented. Even a high-power microscope would not be powerful enough to see it. What a waste. The publisher must be aware of this, yet still produces the product. I wouldn't even GIVE this to anyone for fear of causing them permanent sight damage. Threw it in the garbage. What a waste of time. I see in the back of the book that it was produced June 14, 2018. Must have been done in someone"s basement. A quick update The publisher's company, upon Googling them, is Russian, and has no English on their site. Strelbytskyy Publishing.
Sea-Wolf is worthy of being a compulsory read for high school students, it confronts real timeless issues. Though it is somewhat dated, there are no longer seal hunting schooners, but the process of becoming a confident man or woman is still one of growth and discovery. Sea-Wolf tells of a brutal path to self discovery, and the consequences of dependency, the absolute need for self-reliance, and the wasted lives possible for the coddled. Great discussions can be fostered by reading this story with your teen friends, and family. This is a true conning of age (maturity) tale about a "man" spoiled by privilege.
